Kicking For Fame

Brand me a skeptic! The first girl to try out at a regional Combine, as a new rule was just put into place this year, really leaves me wondering.  As the first female scout in the NFL back in the 1970s, I didn't do it for PR reasons.  In fact, just the opposite could be suggested. The same goes for Suzy Kolber, who played football growing up and had a passion for the game. This girl appears to not have any experience that would validate her invitation and is a feels like a PR mockery of the combine.

Lauren Silberman seems to be basking in the spotlight and doing it for that reason.

If I read Mia Hamm or a girl named Katie Hnida who kicked extra points for New Mexico and Continental Indoor Football League were doing it, I would be so proud and rooting hard for success.

But how did a girl at 28 who only played club soccer in college, and said she studied video games to kick long Field Goals, get invited in the first place?

Also, she's so quick to say, if I don't make it, she hopes it opens other doors.  For her?

I will wish her the best of luck and maybe I'm way off base, but this all just seems more than meets the eye to me.

UPDATE: Watching her "kickoff" attempts go 15-20 yards proves my original theory.
