Connie’s Pep Talk: Week 3 – Jets vs Bills

Today’s Jets-Buffalo game is being covered on TV as the Geno Smith vs. EJ Manuel Bowl, but I’m looking at it as Rex Ryan vs. Mike Pettine instead.  EJ Manuel was taken before Geno (1st vs. 2nd round) and the Buffalo Bills have a definite advantage in their players at the skill positions, so if the Jets defense can rise up today, Rex will be King.

With Stevie Johnson, CJ Spiller, Fred Jackson, stud rookie WR Robert Woods and 6′ 7″ TE Scott Chandler,  Manuel has many weapons.  Plus this is a big chance for former Jet DC Mike Pettine to show he’s able to stand on his own.   I’m reading the Jets are getting Quinton Couples back to our tough DL and that can really be important today if he’s really ready and healthy.  Rex needs to come up with new and confusing looks for the rookie Manuel. The Jets defensive backfield has to bring their “A” game not just to cover, but to tackle especially on the Buffalo screens and plays in space.

As I sit here in Florida getting nervous for this big Jets-Buffalo game, I think back to the days when I worked for the Jets in Scouting and my brother Bruce Nicholas worked for the Buffalo Bills in Scouting at the same time.

We sure didn’t talk and still to this day we sure don’t call the one that loses for at least a week after the game.
